Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program

The Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is an immigration pathway that allows Canadian provinces and territories to select and nominate individuals who wish to settle in a specific province. Each province and territory has its own PNP, and in the case of Nova Scotia, it has its own Provincial Nominee Program called the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP).

The NSNP is designed to address the specific labor market needs and economic development priorities of Nova Scotia. It provides opportunities for skilled workers, international graduates, entrepreneurs, and individuals with family connections in Nova Scotia to immigrate to the province.

Here is some detailed information on the NSNP and how it works:

1. Categories: The NSNP offers several immigration categories, each with its own specific requirements. These categories include:

a. Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry Category: This category is for skilled workers with work experience in occupations that are in high demand in Nova Scotia. Applicants must have a profile in the federal Express Entry system and meet the eligibility criteria of this category.

b. Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry Category: This category is for individuals who have at least one year of work experience in Nova Scotia in a high-skilled occupation. Applicants must have a profile in the federal Express Entry system and meet the eligibility criteria of this category.

c. Skilled Worker Stream: This category is for skilled workers who have a job offer from a Nova Scotia employer. The job offer must be for a permanent, full-time position, and the applicant must meet the criteria for education, work experience, language ability, and other factors.

d. Entrepreneur Stream: This category is for experienced business owners or senior business managers who want to establish, acquire, or invest in a business in Nova Scotia. Applicants must submit a comprehensive business plan and meet the eligibility requirements, including a minimum net worth and investment amount.

e. International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream: This category is for international graduates from a Nova Scotia post-secondary institution who have started or acquired a Nova Scotia business and intend to settle in the province. Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria, including a minimum net worth and investment amount.

2. Application Process: The NSNP application process typically involves several steps, which may vary depending on the category. These steps generally include:

a. Expression of Interest (EOI): Applicants usually need to submit an EOI to the NSNP, indicating their interest in immigrating to Nova Scotia. The EOI provides information about the applicant's skills, education, work experience, language proficiency, and other factors.

b. Invitation to Apply (ITA): If the applicant's EOI meets the eligibility requirements and aligns with Nova Scotia's labor market needs, they may receive an ITA to apply to the NSNP. The ITA will specify the category for which they are being invited to apply.

c. Application Submission: Once an ITA is received, the applicant must submit a complete application to the NSNP within the specified timeframe. This includes providing supporting documents, such as educational credentials, work experience letters, language test results, and business-related documents for entrepreneur categories.

d. Assessment and Nomination: The NSNP assesses the application based on the eligibility criteria of the chosen category. If the application is approved, the applicant receives a provincial nomination from Nova Scotia, which provides additional points in the federal Express Entry system.

e. Federal Application and Permanent Residence: After receiving a provincial nomination, the applicant must submit an application for permanent residence to the federal government through the Express Entry system. If the federal application is approved, the applicant and their accompanying family members can become permanent residents of Canada.

3. Benefits of NSNP: The NSNP offers various benefits for immigrants, including:

a. Priority Processing: Applicants nominated by Nova Scotia through the NSNP receive priority processing of their permanent residence applications.

b. Additional Points: A provincial nomination from Nova Scotia awards additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) of the federal Express Entry system, significantly enhancing the chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.

c. Pathway to Permanent Residence: The NSNP provides a pathway for skilled workers, international graduates, and entrepreneurs to obtain Canadian permanent residence and eventually Canadian citizenship.

d. Integration Support: The Government of Nova Scotia provides support and resources to assist newcomers in settling and integrating into the province, including language training, employment services, and community support programs.

It's important to note that the specific requirements and processes of the NSNP can change over time.
